First COS mens home game of the season

Will the COS Giants walk away with the win against the Bakersfield Renegades? Find out below.

The College of Sequoias Men’s Baseball team hosted the Bakersfield Renegades Tuesday afternoon in their first home opener of the season. The Giants ran away with the win, 7-4.

Starting pitcher, Giants Joseph Gamber kicked off the game a little unsure. Gamber lost a few runners to walks but was able to contain his nerves and get the outs without advancing any runners beyond second base. Wasting no time, Giants Zach Milhous, who went 2 for 3, scored on a wild pitch putting the Giants on the board first.

The Giants continued their hot streak of putting up at least one run on the board through the sixth inning. In the second inning Giants, Daniel Coronado, flew out to right field on an RBI sacrifice fly, allowing Giants Isaiah Munoz to come home and extend the Giants lead. In the third inning, Giants Kanani Judd-Au singled, advancing Munoz to second, and brought home Giants Ethan Winslow to make it 3- 0 Giants.

In the fourth inning, Giants Winslow got on base due to an error by the Renegades shortstop which brought home Giants Milhous. In the top of the fifth, the Renegades were able to get on the board on a groundout, but the Giants had a four-run lead on the Bakersfield team. In the bottom of the fifth, Giants Munoz hit a solo home run to extend the lead once again, 5-1.

Giants’ Benjamin Rodriguez had the biggest play of the afternoon, with a two-run home run, extending the Giants 7-1. The final innings of the afternoon were quiet for the Giants putting up no runs and allowing the Renegades to put up three more runs on errors and wild pitches. While the Giants did have a few hiccups toward the end of the game, the Giants defense was able to make the outs, taking home the win.
