The College of the Sequoias men’s basketball team entered the game with a record of 16-6 and were the winners of their last seven of eight games; last night’s matchup was against the Tigers of Reedley College who came into the game with a record of 11-11.
The first half started very back and forth and was a close game. Towards the middle of the quarter the Giants started pulling away. The Giants playing team basketball along with a suffocating defense only allowed five points, in the final six minutes of the first half. They led at halftime 37-18, leading the way for the Giants with nine points each were Guard Kareem Barnett and Forward Cameron Kelly.
However, the Tigers weren’t going down without a fight, coming out of halftime the Tigers were matching the Giants scoring. They eventually cut the lead into single digits, only being down eight. After cutting the lead to single digits, the Giants had enough, in the closing four minutes the Giants went on a 9-2 run pushing their lead back to double digits for the rest of the game.
The Giants earned the win with a final score of 74-61, a big help in the second half was Kelly as he had 18 points in the second half, he finished the game with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals while shooting an efficient 11-15 from the field.
The next men’s home basketball game is this Saturday, February 7th against Lemoore College at 3 p.m.
