Summer is quickly approaching and the time to start making plans and schedule vacations is finally here. With the semester coming to a close and with students dealing with finals and finishing up their last assignments, summer vacation is something nice to look forward to. 

Students usually have a wide array of plans to do during the summer. When talking with different students, most people say how they’re probably just going to stay at home and hang out with their friends. With the economy where it’s at right now, cheaper and even free options have become more ideal for students when deciding how to spend their free time. When looking at the common hobbies amongst students, it seems like hiking has become more popular since the start of the year as well. Students are becoming more interested in the outdoors, and physical activity like this is becoming more common.

When speaking with one student here at COS, Kaedon Vieira, he mentions how during the summer he plans on spending time with his friends and family. When asked about his plans Vieira stated “I just want to take it easy and hang out with my friends mostly”. Vieira is also working on his project car, a 1979 L82 Chevy Corvette. Vieira mentions how he loves working on his car with his friends, but during the semester he has less free time to do so. During summer break he hopes to hang out with them and really make some progress on his car.

Along with simply seeing his friends, Vieira hopes that he can continue to stay active and play more basketball. Vieira loves to play basketball, but with work and school, he can rarely find the chance to get a game together with his friends. He hopes that this summer he can play a lot more pickup games than he has the past few months.Vieira is also looking forward to taking a trip to Six Flags with his family.

Vieira says how he used to love roller coasters and that it’s been years since him and his family have taken a trip like that. This summer he plans on taking his family all together. While students’ plans for summer can come in all different forms, the one through line between them all is that everyone wants to spend their time with friends and family.
