Small, simple, and easy to miss, trinket boxes are building a sense of community across Visalia. These boxes operate on a simple idea: take a trinket, leave a trinket. From tiny figurines and bracelets to stickers and cards, each item adds a personal touch while keeping the exchange going.
The concept encourages participation and respect. To maintain the balance of the box, visitors are encourage to leave items in the box. Items should be small—something that fits in a pocket—and free of food or anything that could damage the contents. The goal is to create a shared space where small objects carry meaning and connection. Part of the appeal comes from the element of surprise. Similar to the growing popularity of blind boxes, opening a trinket box offers a moment of discovery, with each visit bringing something new.
COS has joined in on the trend with a trinket box located at The Grind on campus. Like others in Visalia, many of these boxes are near local coffee shops, creating a shared space where people can pause and participate in the exchange. Beyond campus, additional trinket boxes can be found inside The Mix, 215 W. Main St., and Caffeine Dose, 515 W. Murray Ave.
As more people contribute, these small boxes continue to grow into something larger—a quiet but creative way to bring the community together.
