College of the Sequoias women’s softball team started with a quick early morning game only lasting five innings.
Starting off the first inning strong pitcher, Audrina Rodriguez, held a quick inning with a strong defense behind her not allowing any runs. Staying strong on offense, the Giants swung with determination, scoring 5 runs thanks to, Gabrielle Vasquez and Maddie Lujan both hitting doubles and Mikayla Moreno with a single. Cabrillo made a quick pitch change in the top of the second, forcing the Giants to make a quick adjustment. At the bottom of the second, Madisyn Benedict hit a double delivering three runs bringing the score to 9-0. Rodriguez finished pitching in two innings with 21 pitches, 16 strikes, and facing six batters.
In the third inning, the Giants brought in pitcher, Amanda Herrera, and catcher, Yareli Rocha, to make it a quick and painless inning. In the bottom of the third, Vasquez was able to make it to first due to an error from the Seahawks. The error allowing Miyah Reeves to score another point for the Giants. With the score being 10-0 in the fourth inning, the Giants had a good chance at finishing the game in the next inning with a run rule.
Continuing to keep the innings quick, the Giants were able to keep the Seahawks from getting on base and scoring the entire game. Vasquez came in clutch with a single, bringing in another run. The Seahawks were not on their game, walking the last few batters and allowing the Giants to score, ending the game 12-0. Herrera closed the game quick in the top of the fifth inning, finishing the game with 23 pitches, 16 strikes, and facing 10 batters.
The Giants play again at home Thursday, February 19th, against Bakersfield College at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.. Go GIANTS!
