The College of Sequoias Men’s Baseball team rang in the new year with a win last Friday afternoon with a scrimmage against the Cerro Coso Coyotes. The Giants came out victorious in a 12-9 final.
The Giants started out the game with a slow start. The Giants sat through foul after foul anticipating any play to happen. As the Giants came up to bat in the bottom of the first, Giants Daniel Coronado hit a 2 RBI double to put the Giants on the board first. Wasting no time after Coronado, Giants Ethan Winslow hit an RBI double to extend their lead, 3-0.
In the second inning, Giants started to lose their groove. With a pitching change, Giants Alex Hernandez struggled to find his strike zone and gave up multiple runners. Combining both pitching and defensive errors by the Giants, the Coyotes tied the game.
Giants turned it around in the bottom of the third taking back their lead with a single by Giant’s Winslow. At the bottom of the fourth, the Giants extended their lead with four runners coming home. Giants’ Zach Milhous bunted to bring one run in, Jesse Ortega hit an RBI double, Coronado hit a 2 RBI double, and Giants Keine Prendez hit an RBI double giving the Giants a six-run lead, 9-3.
The Coyotes made some noise with a 3-run homer in the sixth but the Giants were able to clap back with a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the sixth extending their lead 11-6. With a close 3-run difference, Giants held their lead and ran away with the win. For all upcoming men’s baseball games and other sporting events at COS, go to https://cosgiants.com/landing/index
