The College of the Sequoias football team came into the game Saturday morning with a lot of momentum from the big win last week in San Francisco. From the opening kick, the Giants’ offense marched down the field as Jahkylle Smith ran the ball into the endzone for the first score of the game.
After a quick 3 and out by the Mustangs, the Giants offense picked up right where they left off, capping off another drive with a Giants touchdown when Reily Garcia connected with Gage Armbruster on a 7-yard touchdown pass making the score 13-0. Things only got worse for the Mustangs during a fumble on the kickoff, setting up yet another score as Greg Robison ran the ball right before the end of the first quarter, making the score 20-0 going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs finally put the ball into the endzone making the score 20-7. The celebration was cut short when Greg Robison, Danny Oliver, and Hector Gonzales each had a touchdown of their own making the first half score 41-7.
In the second half, the Giants kept their foot on the gas, quickly scoring again and bringing the game to 48-7. Although the Giants offense was on fire the whole game, their defense was also undeniably causing problems for the Mustangs with the very aggressive pass rush led by Tovie Martin. Martin was a big problem for the Mustang’s QBs, pressuring the quarterback for a total of 9 times and getting 1.5 sacks as well. The Giants were too much for the Mustangs, leading to the final score 58-7.
The giants hope to have another strong outing as they travel up to Sacramento to take on Feather River (9/28).
