The College of the Sequoias Student Senate turned the quad into a Valentine’s Day marketplace on February 11th and February 12th, hosting its Giant Hearts Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The two-day event gave students a festive break between classes, with local vendors, campus clubs, and student services offering food, handmade gifts and interactive activities.
Vendors lined the walkways with a mix of savory meals, sweets, and drinks. Participating businesses included Acai Bar, D’s Thai Valley Rolls, Flautas y Tacos El Bandido, Pasta Llena Corazon Contento, Raspados y Frutas el Pollo, Rehoboth Nigerian Cuisines, Sopon Jewelry, Thieving Crow Kettle Corn and Happy Lemon Drinks and Waffles.
Campus clubs added to the celebration with themed booths and creative fundraisers. The COS Dream Club sold Valentine’s baskets, crochet figures, pipe cleaner flowers, cookies, and mini conchas. The Social Justice Club offered homemade heart-shaped cookies, while the Fitness Club sold protein cookies and muffins.
At a nearby booth, the Pre-Healthcare Student Association served regular, strawberry, and banana matcha at its matcha bar. The Gamers Den Club added a playful touch, mixing “romantic,” “platonic” and “poison” potion sodas for students.
Students could also stop by the Alpha Gamma Sigma XI Honor Society booth to create valentine’s cards for veterans, friends, family, or themselves. The completed cards are set to be delivered to the local Veterans Affairs offices and hospitals as a gesture of appreciation for veterans’ service.
The ASL Club handed out free valentine’s cards and stickers and organized a build-a-bag station where students could fill gift bags with treats. The Print Works Club offered free Valentine’s Day-themed screen-printed temporary tattoos, created live prints and sold student-made artwork.
Student Health Services also participated, sharing information about its “Let’s Talk” peer mentoring program and upcoming free art sessions while distributing candy, treats, and small gifts.
Throughout the event, Student Senate members handed out free roses and chocolate covered strawberries. They also set up stations where students could create DIY valentine’s cards and decorate heart-shaped cookies.
With music, food, and activities spread across the quad, Giant Hearts Day offered students a chance to connect, support campus organizations and celebrate Valentine’s Day in a fun and welcoming space.
