The COS women’s softball team currently sits in the number one seed in their division. The team currently sits at 25-8 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
The Giants were on a 10-game winning streak until they faced off against conference rivals Reedley City College. In game one of their double header matchups, the Reedley Tigers snuck away with the victory 1-0. In game 2, COS took their revenge with a 4-2 victory.
Several players have had a major impact on the team’s success. #5 Emily Ibarra is having a great season, having played 32 games, and averaging .444 at bat, including a home run, 22 RBIs, and 28 runs scored. #9 Isela Villareal has played 32 games and is averaging .358 at bats, 12 RBIs, and 25 runs scored. #00 Grace Chojnacki has played 32 games and averaged .337 at bats, 19 RBIs, and 14 runs scored including one home run. The offensive side of the ball has paid dividends for the Giants.
Two key players have been helping on the defensive side for the Giants. #15 Bailee Bustos has had an impressive performance with an Earns Run Average of 1.25 and an amazing 154 strikeouts Also, #00 Chojnacki’s ERA is 1.60 with 62 strikeouts.
With the great performances by the COS women, the Giants have a chance to win the division. The Giants look like they will successfully close out the season with only five games left. Next up for the Giants are Taft College, West Hills Coalinga College,and Porterville College.
