The drought was infamous in the early 2000’s causing more of a risk for, “Degrading water quality and quantity, reducing crop yields, and increasing wildfire risk” according to Drought Impacts for how the drought affected California. Now after almost three decades California is finally drought free. Yet what does this mean, Giants?
Californians everywhere will have to be more cautious and take water usage into consideration. But as well as benefits from this include having replenished reservoirs and high snowpack for hopefully a long-term security, this helps the central valley in our agricultural production, and this will reduce wildfires from happening often in the hot summer days.
For now as a community and state, Californians should conserve their water intake by “investing in water supply projects, implementing advanced water recycling, recharging groundwater basins, and adopting permanent conservation habits” according to the California Department of Water Resources.
Hearing this for the first time after all of the ads, teachers, parents along with movies in our lives of how to help our state get out of this drought was a relief. One of the best things since hearing that for the Earth is that the ozone layer is slowly recovering. It’s all about doing your part, so Giants please remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle. As well as putting timers on your sprinklers, not letting water run unattended as well as timed showers.
