Baseball game delayed by rain

Baseball+game+delayed+by+rain

Coming off a rough four-game losing streak, the College of Sequoias Men’s baseball team won two of three against the Reedley Tigers. The Giants got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first, playing only two innings until the Giants were called off the field due to a rain delay. Picking back up two hours after the start time, the Giants came out victorious in a close game, 12-10.

As the rain began to fall, the Giants were playing as if they were back on their little league teams playing more so for the fun of the game instead of trying to come out with a win. Giants Isaiah Munoz doubled in the bottom of the first to bring in the Giants’ first run. Following Munoz, Giants Benjamin Rodriguez flew out to right field on a sacrifice fly to bring home another run. Before being put on rain delay, the Tigers singled being down only by a run.

Starting back off the rain delay, the Giants put up five runs in the fourth inning after the Tigers had just tied the game with a solo shot home run. Giants Daniel Coronado reached first on an error, advancing Giants Matthew Raygoza to third and bringing in a run. Giants Jacob Jiles singled to bring home Raygoza. With the big play of the inning, Munoz singled to bring in three runs. The Giants now led 7-2.

Combining fielding errors on Giants Jesse Ortega, Coronado, and Jiles, the Tigers added runs in the 5th and took the lead by one in the 6th inning. Jumping off the field straight into the batter’s box, the Giants were able to tie the game on a Rodriguez double in the 6th.

Not being tied for long, Rodriguez doubled again in the bottom of the 7th to bring home three runners.

With bases loaded being down two and only one out the Tigers were looking to take the lead in the top of the 8th. On a line drive to second basemen Jiles, a double play happened to hold the Tigers from scoring.

Giants added one more run to their lead in the bottom of the 8th as well as the Tigers did in the 9th, but Giants came out on top.

With rain comes slips and slides, but fortunately for the Giants the Tigers were unable to take back their lead. For all upcoming men’s baseball games and other sporting events at COS, go to https://cosgiants.com/landing/index
