Stop floundering around and come swim to the sidelines. Meet one of the fastest fish COS’ Men’s Swim Team has to offer: Vincente Sanchez.
A Visalia native, Sanchez has entered his first season as a collegiate athlete for the College of the Sequoias.
Though only in his first season, Sanchez has established himself as a marlin of a man who makes big waves against the competition. Yet this level of performance was not gained from having gills. He embraces a strong work ethic and shows up to win. Sanchez is sure to turn the tides in his favor moving into the back half of the swim season.
Competing in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke and freestyle events, Sanchez was determined to get faster every meet. He was, “motivated to train harder,” after receiving top six placements.
Reflecting on what has impacted him the most transitioning into his college career, Sanchez shares that, “It’s the accountability. It’s huge. My teammates are the reason for me competing as hard as I do and we all want each other to succeed.”
Being team-oriented is a part of the ever-growing dynasty taking place within COS’ Swim program. Coming out to compete and beat the person next to you is a key ingredient to the success seen out of the pool these last few years. With multiple conference titles under the program’s belt, Sanchez shares that, “winning our conference would be great. That’s a goal every season. But we are all focused on state. I know I am ready to compete.”
Looking strong to finish another swimmingly swell season, COS Swim and Dive have their eyes on bigger horizons. A state championship is a thought persistent in the minds of all swimmers and divers here at College of the Sequoias.
