The College of Sequoias Men’s Basketball team kicked off their season with the Giant Classic Thursday evening. The Giants hosted La SouthWest College, San Francisco City College, and Contra Costa College in the two-day classic. On night one of the classic, the Giants defeated Contra Costa College 83-72.
The Giants earned a win in their home opener Thursday evening playing with aggression and communicating well to each other. While the Cougars were able to get on the board first, Giants clapped back taking the lead with Giants Davis White’s three-pointer shot. After this, the Giants took off extending their lead over the Cougars. As the Giants continued to extend their lead, the Cougars started showing their frustration as they weren’t communicating with each other. The Giants were able to use this to their advantage and had a 13-point lead against the Cougars in the first half, 46-33.
In the second half of the game, the Giants struggled to put up defense against the Cougars. The Giants lacked communication and had many turnovers to the Cougars. The Giants were still able to hold the lead but the Cougars were making it close, 68-59. Giants took a timeout to regroup themselves and wasted no time for Giants Jaylon Lee to score from an assist by Giants Jaden Haire. Although the Giants ran away with the win, they had their setbacks but were able to finish off strong.
