College of the Sequoias students are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices continue to skyrocket. According to the website ways, gas prices have gone up more than a dollar just in the past two months here in Visalia. Many blame the war in Iran and the closing of the Straight of Hormuz for the rising prices. Here in the Central Valley, COS students say the rising gas prices are having a negative effect on their wallets.
Emanuel Palos, a COS student says, “The gas prices is affecting me as a student because I have to pay more for gas just to head to class and work”.
Yareli Oseguera, another COS students agrees, “Well they’re pretty expensive now I pay $10 more at this point, but I drive a Honda so it’s not that bad but still paying a good $60 every two weeks is quite expensive”.
Hedgar Garica drives quite a bit and says he goes through gas extremely fast which costs him a fortune. “The gas prices are affecting me significantly as I can’t necessarily go anywhere without a quarter of my gas tank being depleted from a trip to COS Visalia and back home”
Rosy Villarreal says a lot more of her paycheck is now going to fill up her car. She says, “they are affecting me because they have gone up throughout this past month or so, every time I go to school. It’s like $50 to $60 because well I also go to work”
The high gas prices are affecting more and more students even if they simply go back and forth from school or home. Most COS students say they are spending $30 – $60 dollars more per trip.
