Members of the campus organization A2MEND/BSTARS are continuing to build academic and professional opportunities for students through a recent university tour, an upcoming campus cookout, and a leadership conference in southern California. Last week, the group visited California State University, Sacramento, as part of an educational campus tour designed to expose members to transfer pathways and university resources. During the visit, students explored the campus, learned about admissions requirements, and gained insight into student life at the four-year institution.
Jalon Wilkinson, the club’s vice president, said the tour was intended to help students visualize their academic goals beyond community college. A club member was also admitted to the University. “Seeing the campus in person makes the idea of transferring feel more real and achievable,” said Desmerae Saunders, who attended the trip. The organization is continuing its momentum with a campus cookout scheduled today, February 26th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the quad. The event is open to all students and aims to build community, encourage fellowship, and introduce more students to the mission of A2MEND/BSTARS.
In addition to on-campus engagement, the club will also travel to Long Beach to attend the upcoming A2MEND conference. The conference provides mentorship opportunities, networking connections, and access to potential scholarship resources for students seeking academic advancement.
According to Tevin Howerton, the club’s president, the conference is a major opportunity for members to connect with educators, professionals, and peers from across the state who are committed to educational equity and achievement. Through campus visits, community events, and statewide conferences, A2MEND/BSTARS continues to promote scholarship, leadership, and mentorship while encouraging students to pursue higher education opportunities beyond their current campus.
