With the academic year ending, some COS students are gearing up for the next big leap in their academic journey: transferring to a university. College of the Sequoias is hosting a College Signing Day event at the Quad in the Visalia campus on Wednesday, May 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is classified as a “drop-by-event”, meaning students can stop by at any time during that period. Although, it is encouraged that students register online at this link: www.cos.edu/signingday.
This celebration is for Giants who have been admitted and have accepted an offer to a four-year university. According to Liz Garcia, a COS Transfer and Career Center Coordinator, “(The event is) Inspired by The Reach High Initiative by former First Lady Michelle Obama, this event celebrates every COS transfer student who has committed to pursuing higher education at a four-year university starting in fall 2025.” Transfer students in attendance can expect to: ring a giant bell, take photos with friends and family, have a photo opportunity with our mascot Timber and President Calvin, receive a COS graduation gift, receive support with Final Transcript Requests, as well as receiving support from COS Counselors with any graduation or counseling related questions! The only prerequisite for participating in this event is that students must have been admitted to a four-year University and officially accepted an offer to begin attending in fall 2025.
Students are encouraged to wear any clothing or accessories that represent the school they will transfer to and to bring their family and friends to this event. Transfer representatives from Fresno State University, Grand Canyon University, and Fresno Pacific University have all confirmed attendance. There will be music, as well as food trucks that students and staff can purchase from.
Alongside the Final Transcript deadline, transfer students also need to be aware of the deadline for the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). This is the deadline by which students need to either accept or decline an admissions offer. Although most University deadlines are on June 1st, California State University’s deadlines tend to vary. For campus-specific information about this upcoming deadline, please visit this link: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/casper/Pages/statement-of-intent-to-register.aspx.
