Disney Announces Resort-Like Residential Community

The Walt Disney Corporation has announced their plans to build “resort-like residential communities” for fans who can’t bear to leave the world of Disney.

The community, officially called Storyliving by Disney, will be designed by Disney’s Imagineers creative staff and is said to offer the same “pampered tranquility of it’s resorts”.

“Picture an energetic community with the warmth and charm of a small town and the beauty of a resort,” said Disney Parks Experiences and Products executive, Helen Pak, in the launched promotional video.

While the Disney residential community is titled Storyliving by Disney, the areas will focus less on Mickey Mouse and his friends to instead draw attention to the culture, history and other attributes of the places chosen for construction.

“Every single element of these communities will be steeped in a story,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, said. And the residents, he followed that up with, will be active participants in the stories.

As of this article, details on prices and financing have not been shared, but it is said that the development will include properties like single-family homes and estates.

Rental homes are said to not be anticipated for this project, but families with young children and people of all ages are able to purchase property within Storyliving by Disney.

According to Disney, certain areas of their residential properties will be specifically designated for those 55 and older.

Amenities included in the living area will include live entertainment, wellness programming and seminars, as well as a hotel, a private beach, and an entertainment, dining and shopping district.

“Despite bearing its name, Disney will not own the communities or be the developer of record; nor will it be building or selling the homes,” says Arthur Levine of USA Today, “It will be partnering with third parties to handle those functions.”
