Saturday, March 5th in Querétaro, Mexico Fans gathered to enjoy a game of soccer between Los Gallos Blancos de Querétaro and Los Rojinegros de Guadalajara. What fans didn’t know was that minutes later all hell was about to break loose.

It all started after the second half of the 62’ minute when fights started to break loose around the stadium. Chaos spread all around and fans ran down towards the field to take cover. Fans were using knives, metal bars, guns and their fists to fight. Many think the riots that took place were already planned out, it was just a matter of who was going to spark the riot. Queretaro fans attacked Atlas fans, even kids and women who just wanted to watch a friendly soccer match were attacked for wearing an Atlas shirt.

More than twenty-four people were injured. Although the governor of Queretaro denies that some fans died. It’s very likely at least a few people died. Some fans that attended the game declared that people in fact died. This shouldn’t happen at soccer games, especially even go and try to harm fans from the rival team.

As of today, Liga Mx, has implemented a campaign “Grita x La Paz” in other words, to shout for peace.

Due to this brawl, many sanctions have been in place, Queretaro is allowed to continue to play for the rest of the season but will not have fans present at their stadium. Fans are not allowed to join their teams in away games when they will be on the road.

This isn’t what soccer is supposed to represent; the rivalry should be left out on the field.
