Giants vs. Columbia Men’s Basketball

Going into this game, the Sequoia Giants were tied with Columbia for 2nd place in the Central Valley Juco Conference. It was a very competitive game, but in the end COS showed that they were the better team as they won 82-76.

Even though they won, the Giants were only ahead by one point at halftime. They came out on fire thanks to Amil Fields who had 16 points in the second half, Ryan Johnson who had three 3-pointers in the second half, and Tiveon Stroud who had 8 points in the second half.

Another key factor to the Giants pulling out a close win was first year head coach Dallas Jensen. After the game, Jensen said the key to winning, “Was our game plan which was to attack downhill and attack the rim.”

It was evident that was their game plan as they shot 11 more free throws, had 50 points in the paint and out-rebounded them 55-46.

The Giants were just more physical than Columbia, which resulted in them abusing their paint presence and racking up the points in that area of the court.

The Giants now go on the road and hope to extend their three game winning streak to four against the Porterville Pirates on Saturday, January 25th, at 5pm.
