Giant’s Play First Bowl Game in Over 2 Decades

With mere seconds on the clock Quarterback Gus Villareal successfully threw a game saving touchdown to tie up the 4th quarter . He would then go on to lead the Giants to victory in overtime against Santa Rosa Bear Cubs on Sept. 28th.

With mere seconds on the clock Quarterback Gus Villareal successfully threw a game saving touchdown to tie up the 4th quarter . He would then go on to lead the Giants to victory in overtime against Santa Rosa Bear Cubs on Sept. 28th.

The Giants (6-4)  are traveling to Butte College to play the Roadrunners (7-3) in their first bowl game in over a decade.

When playing the same opponents, the Giants are 4-2, and the Roadrunners are 5-1.

Both teams beat San Joaquin Delta, Santa Rosa, Feather River, and Siskiyous. On the other side of the coin, both teams lost to the 8-2 Fresno City Rams, in close games 17-7 and 13-10 for the Roadrunners. The only difference, is that the Giants lost to Shasta, 20-7 and the Roadrunners beat Shasta 37-20.

COS hasn’t been to a Bowl Game since 1991, when they beat Siskiyous 40-27.

However, they come in with talent on both sides of the ball, touting Valley Conference Defensive Player of the year in defensive linemen Noah Wright, and First Team All-Conference players: Defensive Back Bobby Peele who had six interceptions, which is tied for second in the state, Linebacker Mitch Maggini who led the team in tackles with 53, Corleone Peters who had seven sacks.

On offense, Wide Receiver Bryson Allen was the Conference Player of the Year, he racked up 35 receptions for 793 yards and 10 touchdowns, Running Back Devontae Green was named First-team All-Conference, and had 893 yards on 175 rushes, and six touchdowns. Also named to First-team All-Conference were Offensive Linemen Miguel Madrigal, and TJ Parker.

`The Gridiron Classic Bowl will be in Butte, on Sat, Nov. 23rd at Noon.
