Giants Women’s Basketball Defeats Porterville Pirates

Most college basketball games are close but the Giants showed that’s not always the case in their win against the Porterville Pirates 73-22.

The Giants dominated the Pirates in every way imaginable especially inside, out-rebounding them 53-21.

They also dominated in passing the ball and scoring, winning the assist game 18-3 which shows you that they were not just dependent on one player they were moving the ball and playing true team basketball.

Their defense was also spectacular forcing 30 turnovers which has some type of record.

The leading scorer and player of the game for the giants was starting point guard, Alaysia Reed. Reed had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

The Giants also had key reserve Serena Ybarra come off the bench and drop 13 points. This dominant win helped the Giants snap a 3 game losing streak. I got a chance to ask head coach Ray Alvarado about and he said, “We just had to focus and take one game at a time and take a little bit more ownership, have more pride defensively”

The COS ladies hope to continue this momentum against the West Hills Lemoore Golden Eagles as they are set to take them on Wednesday, January 29th at 6 P.M. in Lemoore.
