Nearly 200 art entries were submitted, and 52 artists chose 81 pieces from the total submitted. Of those 81 pieces, seven art styles were represented: 3D Design, Digital, Sculpture, Ceramics, Color and Design, Print and Painting. Each piece of artwork costs 1$ per entry, and each student could submit up to three pieces. A few pieces of art were being sold at the show. Amie Rangel, the art director, stated, “ The art being presented today was made by all the lovely students who put their time, blood, sweat, and tears into their projects. They have been working since spring 2023. And tonight will be their night to shine.” Exquisite pieces of art caught the eyes of those wandering the exhibit. Art was shown through pain, nature, social expectations, and even a 3D piece of art in the form of a chicken.
While guests were enjoying themselves with refreshments and art, the artists were able to win awards. With each awardee came a prize, such as art supplies, a swag bag from the COS Senate, and a certificate.
An outside juror judged each artwork. Each art style had two winners; and the culmination were two big awards. One for the ‘Best of Show,’ and one for an ‘Award For Merit.’ Eric Mason won the ‘Best of Show award, and Samuel Del Rio won the ‘Award of Merit’ for his piece ‘ Used to Be’. At the end of the awards, transfer students and graduates were recognized and given a COS banner flag.
