College Students: Best Websites to File Taxes

As tax season approaches, it can get pretty difficult and intimidating for college students to start filing their taxes. If you’re filing from home, here are some websites that might make it a bit easier this season.

TaxSlayer

TaxSlayer is another great choice with a rating of 5.0 on Forbes. It has great professional support that is free including a phone line, chat, and email. They include other programs that range from $0-49 for simple tax files to self-employed.

Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax is probably one of the most commonly known tax filing applications with a rating of 4.8 on Forbes. It has been claimed as one of the easiest software to use while filing taxes. The team behind Turbo Tax include explanations of what you may owe, as well as explainer videos, and questionnaires. One downside would be the constant attempts to get one to purchase add-ons while filing taxes.

Cash App Taxes

Cash App Taxes are great for those who are filing something more simple. Forbes rated it 5.0 and the website claims that most can file their taxes within minutes. It’s completely free to file taxes on this software, although they do not provide support and one must have the app downloaded on their device for taxes to be filed.

How to File Taxes

Most college students need their 1098-T to file taxes. If you need help finding the 1098-T, here are the menus you should be navigating:

  1. MyGiant Portal
  2. BannerWeb
  3. Student Services
  4. Student Records
  5. Tax Notification

From there, all you have to do is enter the tax year and everything you need will be on the listed page.
