As the new Captain America film hit theaters on February 14, 2025, Marvel fans ran to watch the first Marvel movie since Deadpool and Wolverine in July 2024 and the first Captain America installment since Captain America: Civil War in 2016.
There has been a rollercoaster of emotions for Marvel fans since Chris Evans stepped away from his role as Captain America, passing the shield to Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson. When Mackie first took on the role, many fans were skeptical, believing no one could replace Evans, who had portrayed the role of Captain America since 2011.
Captain America: Brave New World is an outstanding addition to the Marvel franchise. As a fan, it was refreshing to enjoy a Marvel film that didn’t revolve around the multiverse. It felt like a return to the franchise’s roots, emphasizing grounded storytelling with elements of espionage. Since Captain America has always served as a symbolic reflection of American idealism and the foundational moral values of the country, it was reassuring seeing the political themes remain intact, with timely symbolism reflecting today’s government landscape.
I highly recommend this film to anyone that has followed the franchise. The film will transport you back to the Civil War era of Marvel. The film delivering intense fight scenes, impeccable comedic timing, and a nostalgic yet fresh take on the Captain America legacy Marvel fans have come to love.
