Do you struggle with writing assignments, or take hours to decide what you want to write about? At the ESS building (located next to parking lot 3), not only are there great tutors to help you, but many coordinators to assist as well. I had the opportunity to interview David Hardison, the Writing Center Coordinator. David graduated from Fresno State with a major in English, and before coming to COS, was a writing tutor at Fresno State. He describes how much he loves working one–on–one with people and how personally rewarding it is for him. When asked about his goals for the students, he said, “I want to help the students in their writing skill in becoming a better writer. It’s a place to empower them, not just in the writing aspect but in thinking as well”.
The Writing Center helps students at any stage of the writing process, ranging from essays, grammar, punctuation, and critical thinking. There has been much feedback from students who have gone to the writing center to get help. Some say it’s the one of best things COS has for student support, while others say their writing has improved tremendously. Last semester, I also used the Writing Center, which helped me develop the skills I use for the COS student newspaper. The Writing Center always encourages students to come in.
