The College of the Sequoias (COS) Board of Trustees has a new student representative. On Monday, Sept. 9. 2024, Mehki Sanchez took Oath of Office as the student representative to COS.
“It was a little nerve wracking at first, to be honest, because [the oath] was a lot of words,” Sanchez says. “I got it down pretty good.”
Sanchez is a sophomore at COS. He is majoring in Health in Sports Medicine, a pathway for a Sports Medicine degree at a four-year university.
He serves as the Student Senate Vice President and the President of the African American Male Education and Diversity club.
“I went for the vice president role, and Coach [Will] Hobbs, the Student Senate supervisor, basically said that he wanted to make me the student trustee, because I was doing all [of] these things as well as being the vice president,” he says. “I took the position, of course.”
A Student Trustee represents the student body on the Board of Trustees. They report campus happenings and issues to the board from a student perspective.
Sanchez does not see any major issues, but he does have suggestions for improvement.
“I want to see more student inclusion, where all students are [involved], where it’s fun for everybody,” he says. “And, of course, getting business done and just making it easier for students that are aren’t represented as much.”
