The College of Sequoias women’s soccer team faced another loss Tuesday afternoon against the Clovis Crush. The Giants fell short of the win, 2-0.

The Giants started out ready and prepared. Although the Giants were passing well to each other and being aggressive the Crush girls were able to make more plays happen. Giants Aubrey Salazar and Litsy Munoz worked together to attempt to put the Giants ahead early. Many of the Giants were physically using their bodies and heads to guide the ball to go a certain way to make or help the play happen. While the Giants had close attempts at scoring, the Crush girls were able to score first on a penalty kick.

The Giants struggled to put up any defense in the second half. Giants Salazar and America Lopez wasted no time trying to tie the game but were taking hits left and right, and losing the ball to the other team. Salazar took most of the hits protecting her team’s goal. The Giant’s protection fell short as Clovis scored once again, extending their lead 2-0. The Giants were finding fewer open opportunities to make any plays, losing every ball easily. As the game was coming to an end, the Giants did their best to battle Clovis and try to get on the board. Sadly the Giants were handed the loss.

Giants midfielder Kayla Pena’s thoughts on Tuesday’s game, “I think today was just one of those games that allows our team to grow individually and as a family. It wasn’t the outcome we wanted but we are just reminded we can only go up from here one day at a time.”

“I believe in my team’s work ethic and I know that next game we’ll be ready to work hard and take it on together.”
