“There was a desktop app?” is the response many gave when Twitch made an announcement on their desktop app being shut down on April 30th. Although the desktop app sounds new to many, it actually was used by a lot of people on computer platforms.

Many users enjoyed using the desktop app, claiming that it had a more reliable connection as opposed to the browser version, along with less lag and buffering when it came to watching a stream while also playing games in the background.

In the statement made by the broadcasting platform, Twitch stated that the decision to close down the desktop app was made with both user feedback and usage feedback through the application.

Twitch also noted that in their statement that with the shut down of the app, they can divert more of their focus on the already existing web browser version of Twitch. Mentioning that they will be able to “invest heavily in enhancing and adding new ways to engage with the creators and communities you care about.”.

With the loss of the desktop app, users will need to switch over to the browser website twitch.tv starting April 30th, 2022, in order to continue watching their favorite streamers on their computer/desktop devices.
