COS Tennis Match vs Solano

On February 15, 2021, COS played a home tennis match against Solano in which they won every single game, coming out to a 9-0 complete sweep. This is the second time this season in which the Giants swept their opponents, with the first coming on Jan. 29 against Antelope Valley

This season is off to a hot start for our women’s tennis, being 3-0 to start off the season, with just one of those being in-conference. This is a contrast from how their last season went in 2021. With covid troubles and a brand new team filled with freshmen, the uphill battle that they had to fight last year is nowhere to be found this year thus far.

“You know it was a difficult covid year that we had last year, and we did well last year, being 4-5, but this year’s going to be a little different I think, and we have some real talent 1-6 and I like where we are heading.” (Head Coach Chad Borkey)

This year has obviously already been different, with most teams being able to play on time as they should, and the season starting on time. However, you couldn’t ask for a better start than two 9-0 sweeps, and already having ¾ of the amount of wins that the team had last year.

In order to preserve today’s 9-0 victory though, it required some great skill from our COS Tennis players. Curtlynn Wendt, of Exeter, played the last singles game of the day, and kept the winning streak alive through a thrilling comeback being down a set, and being down 2-5 in her next set.

Improvement has been clear through the first few games we have seen, and this winning streak will likely not end here, especially with their next home match being against Modesto, who have 9-0’d their last two opponents thus far in the season.

“We went 3-3 in the last tournament, so it’s 50/50. They’re tough, so it’ll be a dogfight and it’ll likely come down to 1 or 2 matches” (Borkey)

That next home game is on February 25th at 1:00pm, but COS will play Fresno City on the 18th and Diablo Valley on the 22nd in away games, so hopefully they will come home 5-0 ready to take on a tough adversary and the #1 spot in the conference.
