Women’s soccer thrash in conference opener

Captain Savanna Saesee whips in a cross from a free kick

The Giants started off fast and strong against Cerro Coso with a demanding 4-0 lead only 20 minutes into the game. The scoring didn’t stop and eventually, the Giants went on to win the match 10-0.
The Giants started off the year so far 0-3, starting with a narrow loss to Bakersfield 1-2, then two straight 0-4 losses to Modesto and Cuesta. The losses were a tough way to open up but that didn’t destroy team spirit.
When asked about the losing streak to start, Winger Jahnessah Cavazos stated,
“I think it was just after every loss we got tired of being let down as a team, and wanted to win. So every practice we worked a little harder and focused a little more on what we needed to work on.”
Jahnessah, who went on to have a goal and an assist as a constant threat making runs on the right-wing, said they needed to work together off the field too.
“We all decided we needed to come together off the field to create that bond so that way it can transfer to the field to play better as one team and not just individuals.”
This chemistry showed as they dominated Cerro Coso for the whole 90 minutes, the ball only being in Cerro Coso’s half. Jennifer Lucero bagged a hat trick along with braces coming from Elvira Garcia and Gloria Silva.
Goalies Katie Crenshaw and Teresa Dominguez had the best view of the game from any spectator as they didn’t have to do much with Cerro Coso’s zero shots on goal.
The Giants look forward to continuing this dominating performance ahead of their next game against Sacramento City, at Sacramento at 2:00 pm on 9/24
