Why Newsom’s Gas Powered Car Ban Is Beneficial

Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California will be reducing the making of gasoline-powered cars in hopes to lessen the demand for fossil fuel. He wants California to strengthen itself towards climate change, and he believes this is the first step.

Not having gas cars would greatly improve the environment because gasoline use contributes to air pollution. Burning gasoline also produces carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, and this causes temperatures in the world to rise.

Governor Newsom has actually  “issued an executive order requiring sales of all new passenger vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035 and additional measures to eliminate harmful emissions from the transportation sector” according to CA.GOV. Owning an electric car is better then gas operated because electricity is a continuous source, while gasoline is not.

As stated by Caranddriver.com, Electric cars are quiet, and this can be considered both an advantage and disadvantage. Electric cars make certain noises so they are able to alert pedestrians when they are near. This is good of course, but some people like the sounds cars make.

Another pro is they also do not need to be fixed up as often; they are considered low maintenance cars.  This is good for everybody.

A con is they need to be charged more often than you would get gas. They have a shorter range, and sometimes finding a charging station can be frustrating. Since electric cars are not the majority, not many charging stations are available in a small radius.

The maintenance may be cheaper for electric cars, but the price to buy one may be more expensive than gas cars. Often “a car buyer will pay at least $10,000 more for an electric car than they would for the same type of car in a gas model” according to Caranddriver.com. Although you pay more at first to get the car, it is still better cost wise to own an electric car. “

For too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute the air that our children and families breathe” said Gavin Newsom to CA.GOV.

Having electric cars can improve the world in many ways.
