For many, the debate of the year maybe which democratic candidate will have the best possibilities of defeating President Trump. But for others, the debate is actually the battle of chickens. Spicy or original, the defending champ, Chick-fil-a or the new number one contender, Popeyes.

While it may not seem like it, these two questions are actually more intertwined then meets the eye.

Chick-fil-a is a company known for their conservative views and conservative actions taken by their owners. In 2012, the current CEO Dan Cathy and son of S. Truett Cathy, the owner; was quoted in an interview that he believes in the “biblical definition of the family unit.” That marriage should only be between a man and a woman, and is against any form of same sex marriage. Chik-fil-a has also donated numerous times to a marriage seminar known for its anti-gay views. They say love makes you blind and for many Americans the love for a chicken sandwich has them blind to the views of this company.

But for those Americans that do feel even the slightest of guilt in giving money to a company that is a longtime supporter of anti-LGBTQ organizations, a new dawn approaches.

On August 12th, Popeyes unleashed their very own chicken sandwich onto the world to reek havoc, and that it did. Since the release, Popeyes has been sold-out of their new baby. Popeyes estimates it sold about 1000 chicken sandwiches per day causing the shortages nationwide and eventually pulled the sandwich off the menu.

On August 19th Chick-fil-a added fuel to the already burning fire when it tweeted, “Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the [heart] for the original.” With Popeyes replying ”… y’all good?” This officially started the chicken sandwich war and twitter was here for it.

At a Houston Popeyes a customer pulled a gun out on employees after they notified him that they were sold out. On a more local scale, on September 9th, police were dispatched to the Popeyes in Visalia Ca, after a customer wouldn’t stop screaming and cursing at the employees. Reason being, the all mighty chicken sandwich was still sold out.

No matter what choice of chicken sandwich is chosen, the simple combination of fried chicken, a buttered bun and pickles is quite delicious, if you happen to get one in your hands.
