For those interested in the performing arts, teamwork, and creative projects, the College of the Sequoias Visalia campus offers a vibrant community through ArtCo. The Artistic Company (ArtCo), the official performing arts club at COS, is known for its recent hit, Shrek: The Musical. Members of the club, including the president, are welcoming and deeply involved in each production. With over twenty members, everyone contributes, whether by ushering tickets or performing onstage.
ArtCo embraces a variety of skills, from stagework and graphic design to puppeteering, as seen in last December’s performance of Reefer Madness. The club also has supportive roles, such as running concession booths and selling merchandise, which help fund the use of the school’s auditorium and support their productions.
With that, students interested in hands-on projects can engage in prop design and stage management. Club members also have access to exclusive workshops, such as the stage combat workshop held on March 16th, where they received professional advice and hands-on practice. According to Club President Cole, all levels of experience and talent are welcome. She emphasizes that “ArtCo is more than a drama club; it’s a space where members collaborate, build artistic abilities, and share passions.” Weekly meetings allow members to share opinions and vote on upcoming projects.
Students interested in joining can sign up for a weekly newsletter on campus to learn about shows. Many members are also involved in drama classes, such as Introduction to Theater, where they meet other members.
