The College of the Sequoias (COS) Marketing team is a very tight knit group, with an extremely talented crew with only three members. One of them has been a pivotal member since the beginnings of COS’ marketing history. Vanessa Lamb has shaped her career out of her creative abilities, and as a Media Content Specialist has played a pivotal role in crafting the visual identity for COS.
Lamb has always known she wanted to have a career in video production. She attended California State Long Beach and graduated with a degree in Film studies and a passion for post production. After she graduated Lamb was hired as an editor in a post production house in Los Angeles, California. Diving head first into a grueling 80 hour work week in an extremely demanding industry.
“I loved the work, but it was honestly exhausting” Lamb Recalls, “After just a few years I was ready for a more balanced work life.”
Lamb decided to move to the Central Valley, along with her husband who had also worked for the unforgiving fast paced Hollywood industry. Lamb grew up near Santa Barbara, however the high cost of living made settling down there unrealistic. When Lamb discovered a job opportunity at COS, she said it was the perfect fit!
“My husband had grown up in Exeter and I felt that COS was a place where I could still continue my creative work while having a more balanced work life.”
Lamb’s first title at COS was a Technology Services Assistant, helping out with any production assistance around the campus. But when the college’s new president, Brent Calvin, took office he had a goal to develop a true visual identity for COS. Lauren Fishback, the Marketing Manager, Lamb worked along with shared this vision and took this opportunity to create a fresh new media presence.
As a result, Lamb’s position transformed into a more creative production, where her true film expertise could really shine. “Because there was such a need for marketing, I got to create an entire content library. It’s been an incredible journey.” Lamb’s favorite part about being a Media Content Specialist for COS has been highlights student passion. Whether it’s welding students perfecting their craft or animal science students aspiring to become veterinarians, Lamb thrives on highlighting the things that excite people. “I love my job,” she says. “I want to focus on authentic stories, on students who are passionate about what they do.”
