The College of the Sequoias men’s soccer team fell short of their first conference win of the season Friday evening against Fresno City College. The Giants tied the Rams 1–1.
Wasting no time after the whistle blew, the Giants were attempting shots left and right. Both the Giants and Rams fought physically and aggressively all game long. Getting on the board first, Giants Jairo Medina came from the left corner to score only 15 minutes into the game. The Giants were able to get past the Rams defense and passed well to one another, but were only able to put up the one goal. The Giants went into halftime with the lead 1–0.
“The boys had high energy in the first half. We did really well moving the ball. We had a ton of chances and unfortunately we could only make one – it is what it is” stated Giants’ Julian Estrada.
Starting the second half in the same way as the first, the Giants were looking to extend their lead. Unfortunately, the Rams had an opportunity to tie the game on a penalty. The Giants did their best to find any opportunity to take the lead, but had to settle for the tie.
Estrada added, “We gotta just keep pushing. We haven’t gotten a win yet, we haven’t gotten a true result. We got a tie so that’s better than the last two games we’ve had. We just have to keep pushing in practice. Keep the energy high and stay positive and move forward.”
