The College of the Sequoias has hired a new head coach for the women’s basketball team. Tyler Newton will take over the coaching position.
Newton served as head coach for the Butte College women’s basketball team for seven seasons. In his last season with the Butte Roadrunners, Newton’s team finished at 30-2. Over his seven seasons, Newton had an overall record of 119-52.
Under Newton, Butte College won the Golden Valley Conference title 4 years in a row, reaching the state semi-finals. Butte College ranked #1 overall in their division.
The California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named Coach Newton the Northern California coach of the year two times. He was also named the Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year four times.
As a Burbank native, Coach Newton attended Burroughs High School, Antelope Valley College, and Shasta College. He has a bachelor’s from the University of Pacific, and a dual masters from Concordia University.
COS’ Athletic Director Brent Davis says, “he is an expert in basketball, is extremely organized and a top-notch recruiter.”
Coach Newton certainly has the necessary experience and background to help the Giants succeed.
