Mind Over Matter is a club in development, advised by psychology professor Kelly Diaz and senior clerical of short term health services Kristine Bogan. Mind Over Matter was late to have a table at the resource fair—the club was in the works at the time but now it’s ready for the first day!
Deirdre Betancourt, an officer of the club, described the clubs goals as being to “make a space for discussions about the realm of psychology, but also to actually open up about their own experiences. Cause there’s Let’s Talk, but that’s more peer support, and I’d love to see these kinds of discussions being more accessible in a way.”
My discussion with Deirdre gave insight as to how the club would operate— theming or emphasizing certain realms of psychology each month, while coming together to destigmatize more severe discussions of mental health. Students of psychology hope to come together and support all students on campus, brainstorming ways of doing better as a community and distributing, or making opportune, critical resources throughout campus.
