The College of Sequoias Men’s Baseball team kicked off a three-game series against the Taft Cougars Tuesday afternoon. What started off looking like a close game ended with a Giants loss. The final score of the game was 10-4.
The Giants series started off after a 30-minute delay which seemed to have thrown the Giants off for the first couple innings. Defensive errors were made throughout the game, and sadly, the Cougars used them to their advantage.
The Cougars jumped on a two-run lead against the Giants in the top of the first. The Giants held the Cougars from putting more scores on the board up until the 6th inning.
Giants Ethan Winslow singled in the bottom of the 5th to bring home Giants Daniel Coronado to put Giants now on the board, 2-1.
The top of the 6th Giants struggled to keep the Cougars off the bases. Adding a few more errors on the Giant’s defense, the Cougars were able to score 4 runs. The Giants were able to make some noise in the bottom of the 6th. Giants Isaiah Munoz doubled to bring home Giants Alex Lopez. The Giants’ final two runs of the game came from Giants’ Diego Sanchez on a 2 RBI single. While the Giants made it a close game in the bottom of the 6th, the Cougars added four more runs throughout the last 3 innings.
Although the Giants had errors and got off to a slow start, they were able to get their heads in the game and finish the best they could.
