The COS men’s basketball team just rallied their way to the State Championship game in the California Community College Athletic Association basketball tournament. On Saturday, March 9, 2024, the Giants faced off against Redwood Community College in the third round of the playoffs.
The Giants made history this weekend coming into the game with an incredible 8 game-winning streak. The first half of the game seemed even as the 22nd-ranked Redwood College fought to stay in the game. The Giants held the lead through the quarter, but after some missed shots, Redwood College was able to shrink the lead at the end of the half.
At the start of the second half, it would seem like Redwood had a chance to stay in the game as they fought for every point to tie the game at the 8:22 mark of the second quarter. However, the #3 Giants were too much for them and rallied at the end of the game to comfortably earn their way to the State Championship game.
#11 Jaden Haire for the Giants, had a big game scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and had 40 minutes of play. #10 Jose Cuello ended the game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 defensive rebounds, and had 37 minutes of play. Coming off the bench #22 Cameron Clark scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and had 22 minutes of play.
With their 9th straight victory, the Giants have earned their spot at the State Championship game. COS is now in the Elite 8 bracket and will play West Los Angeles College on Saturday, March 15th at 5 p.m
