The College of Sequoias men’s soccer team tied their second conference game of the season Tuesday afternoon against the Taft Cougars. The final score was 1-1.
The Giants got off to a slow start. Within the first couple of minutes, the only plays happening were between the Cougars. The Giants weren’t playing so aggressively in the first half of the game but momentum started to pick up halfway through the first half.
Giants Yair Ramos, Jonathan Barboza, and Alejandro Morales were putting up a good defense and getting as many passes as they could to Giants Jose Fabian Sandobal and Barboza in an attempt to score first. Between Sandobal and Barboza they were working well together in hopes of getting their team on the board. The Giants were taking many opportunities to score but the Cougars were able to hold them from putting up any score.
The second half of the game was more aggressive for both teams. Many hits and collisions were happening throughout the whole second half. The Giants were taking distance shots before being able to tie the game. Giants Jackson Benevedes took a close shot and had the help of several Cougar players trying to put up a block to help force the tie. As the Giants tied the game, Giants Ernesto Pacheco and Felix Zarate worked together in the last 15 minutes to try and give the Giants their first lead. The last play of the afternoon was a penalty kick for Giants Zarate but unfortunately was blocked by the Cougars goalie, finishing the game in a tie.
