Elon Musk Buys Twitter
Elon Musk, one of the richest men in the world, just bought Twitter for 40 billion dollars. However, there is a lot of controversy. One of the reasons he is taking Twitter to the next level is for free speech.
Musk stated in a recent tweet via Twitter, “By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask the government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.”
In other words, would this change the free speech on Twitter? Anywhere on any social media you can express your thoughts, feelings and emotions. Your first amendment is free speech so it wouldn’t change anything really. Even user can report offensive or discriminatory speech but it takes a while to take it down. Users who continue to use free speech in the wrong way won’t even get banned anymore.
The Tesla owner has different views on how Twitter should be run and to Musk it isn’t being viewed that way. So maybe that is why to him free speech is important.
It just doesn’t make sense. Why would one of the richest men in the world buy a social media platform when he can end world hunger, or invest in something that will help everyone?
Many people were upset by his decision to buy Twitter for 40 billion dollars.
One person even tweeted, “Friendly reminder that Elon Musk told the UN that if they gave him a budgeted breakdown of how $6Bil could end world hunger, he would do it. They gave him the budget and then he decided not to do it, and instead decided he would buy Twitter for $45Bil.”
