#DisneyDoBetter: The Walt Disney Company Staff Walkouts of 2022
During Mar. 2022, Disney staff began to stage walkouts in protest of Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill — dubbed by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — which took place from Mar. 15 to 22.
On their official website, whereischapek.com, the Disney staff behind the walkouts state, “As a community, we have been forced into an impossible and unsustainable position. We must now take action to convince TWDC to protect employees and their families in the face of such open and unapologetic bigotry.”
This is followed by their walkout schedule, which included times such as walkouts during their breaks as well as a full walkout on Tuesday, Mar. 22, beginning at 8am.
For this walkout, they write to fellow staff, “You are protected to act while on break for the daily break walkouts, but the full scale walkout that will take place on Tuesday March 22nd is not a legally protected action. Take your own situation into account before choosing to participate.”
The Walt Disney Animation Studios section of the walkout was supported by other TWDC studios such as Pixar and Lucasfilms (see photos above).
