COS Aquatics Continuing to Make History
At the end of February, COS Aquatics participated in the Mt. Sac Invitational at Mt. Sac College. COS still achieved 3rd place out of 16 teams in total, with the majority of the teams coming from Southern California.
Not only did the Giants finish in the top three at this meet, but they obtained the highest placement in the history of the College of the Sequoia’s swim program, which is something to be celebrated.
Of course, this couldn’t have been accomplished without standout performances from some of the team’s best performing swimmers. For the women’s team, Jillian Lambert was the standout athlete. Lambert won the women’s 50 breaststroke, finishing in 32.49 seconds.
For the men’s team, Joshy Peters finished in second place for every single one of his events. This includes the 200m individual medley free, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and finally the 100m freestyle.
The men’s relay finished in 2nd place overall. Head Coach Allyson Briano described this as, “a huge accomplishment at this meet”. The coach went on to add that “Cuesta College was our biggest rival at this meet”.
Considering how their next meet takes place at Cuesta, battling them so fiercely here at Mt. Sac has only lit a fire under the Giants, as Briano would continue with, “[Cuesta] has motivated our guys and gals to train harder than ever to try and beat them.”
The Cuesta Invitational will take place on Mar. 11 and 12 in San Luis Obispo.
Not only that, but the next home meet will take place on Mar. 25. Make sure to mark your calendars and keep an eye out for COS Aquatics and the rest of the sports events here on campus!
