Demon Slayer: Review

This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer season two.

After the Mugen Train movie in 2021, fans of the hit anime series Demon Slayer had to wait for at least a year for a brand new season of the anime.

Season 2 of Demon Slayer adapts both the two arcs from the successful manga, Mugen Train (chapters 54-69) and Entertainment District (chapters 70-99).

The first episode of the Mugen Train arc premiered on October 10, 2021 and ended on November 28, 2021.

The first episode of the Entertainment District arc premiered on December 5, 2021 and recently ended on February 12, 2022.

The first half of the season is pretty much a redone version of the Mugen Train movie which I thought was a pretty lazy thing for the studio to do. As someone who never saw the movie before watching the new season of the Demon Slayer season, it didn’t affect my viewing experience compared to someone who did.

As for the Entertainment District, it was a fun experience to watch. I love some of the moments with Inosuke, for example, when he was doing a yoga pose and a lady screamed.

When Nezuko transformed into her demon form, I was hyped up for her to beat up Daki. I wish we got more of her fighting as she seemed very powerful. We also see Daki and Gyutaro’s past compared to Enmu. I believe that will make them better antagonists for the rest of season 2.

Each song was unique by their individualized sounds with each having the theme of hope and poetic lyrics.

Mugen Train arc’s opening song Abekoshi by Japanese singer LiSA, is a bit of a grunge song with a dramatic violin that plays throughout the song.

The Entertainment District arc’s opening song Zenkoyopo by Amier is more energetic and fun.

The “da da da” in the opening songs make the audience feel they’re a part of a crowd. The build up in the pre chorus with the drums getting louder and faster excites the listener.

All four of the songs used in the show are accompanied with some animation and my only complaint about the opening is how they show a shot of Muzan Kibtsuji, the main villain of Demon Slayer who didn’t have a large role for season two.
