Are Masks Really Helpful?
Masks have been more than just mandated, they have also been a topic of controversy making people question if they’re doing what they are supposed to do.
Quarantine and COVID restrictions have been more or less in place since March. That is the better part of eight months that Americans have been living in a pandemic and asked to wear masks during public outings.
Since the beginning people have been wondering how helpful they are at slowing the spread.
Why weren’t they mandatory in the beginning? How do they even work? Why are there different kinds? All of these questions are valid to ask and there definitely are professionals providing those answers.
“Yes, face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand-washing and social distancing, help slow the spread of the virus.” stated Mayo Clinic in their article “COVID-19: How much protection do face masks offer?”
Multiple professionals, including the Center for Disease Control(CDC), have all stated that masks have been found to aid in the slowing of COVID spread. The CDC now includes the recommendation of mask wearing as part of their COVID guidelines. Along with that most, if not all, stores, shops, and eateries etc. require a face mask to even enter.
Knowing all of this information it is safe to say that masks, along with all other COVID guidelines, are the new norm and it is wise that individuals should be conscious of what they do and how it may impact themselves and others.
People should wear their mask, and should wear it correctly, because if asking us to stay six feet apart and wear a mask is what we have to do to possibly save lives, it’s the least we can do.
So, when you’re leaving your house for the day don’t forget your phone, wallet, keys, and of course, your mask.
