College of the Sequoias’ Academic Senate met for the first time on August 27th, 2025, but what does that mean for students? The purpose of the Academic Senate is to be a place where student representatives, faculty, and other government bodies on campus can come together and make recommendations to the District and to the Governing Board of the District. During this meeting different faculty from different departments (such as Lang&COMM/Math/English/Fine Arts, ECT…) met for the first time officially to discuss Curriculum Reports.
One of the attendees was Student Senate’s own President Steven Walker. Walker gave a speech that introduced himself as the new Academic Student Senate Representative, along with discussing some future plans and goals for this Academic Term. If COS students are interested in getting involved with student governance, meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 4:10-5:30 pm (holidays excluded) in Sequoia room 1.
