The Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) at College of the Sequoias is a transformative support program dedicated to recruiting students from educationally and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. With a mission to help students thrive academically and personally, EOPS offers resources aimed at helping students transfer to a four-year university, complete an associates degree, or reach other educational goals.
“The EOPS program helps students succeed,” says Director Adrian Beltran, emphasizing the program’s impact on student achievement and support.
Located in the Sequoia Building, Room 10, the EOPS office is a welcoming space where students can access counseling, academic support, and financial assistance tailored to help them overcome barriers to higher education. EOPS also includes two specialized services CARE and NextUp that provides additional layers of support:
● CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) serves students who are transitioning from receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to becoming more economically self-sufficient. Eligible CARE students receive extra benefits, including grants and school supplies. To qualify, students must first be eligible for the EOPS program.
● NextUp is designed specifically for current and former foster youth in California. In addition to all standard EOPS benefits, NextUp students may receive support such as food assistance, emergency housing, book assistance, transportation help, and other services based on financial need.
If you think you may be eligible for EOPS, don’t hesitate to apply. The program is here to help you build a stronger academic foundation and a better future. Applications for the EOPS program close August 31st.
