Sequoias baseball team getting ready for a double-header day

After their demolishing performance against Taft College on Wednesday, the Sequoia Giants are now determined to face Reedley College in another away showdown doubleheader, their second of the year.

Game 1 is now underway, and Reedley had already taken a quick 2-0 lead after COS pitcher Jaylen Rodriguez gave up a 2-run home run with two outs in the first inning.

After a long first inning, both pitchers got in their groove and put up zeros across the board for the second and third inning.

The defense continues to struggle in the bottom of the fourth when the Giants give up another 2-run home run, the second home run of the day for Reedley College.

It is now 4-0 Reedley heading to the top of the fifth for the Giants. An RBI single for Nate Gilson for COS brought hope to the offense, only trailing by three.

Unfortunately, though, Reedley continued to locate the correct pitches and with swings of the bat, put up ten more runs on the Giants, recording a Grand slam that brings the score now to 14-1 Reedley heading into the sixth inning.

COS just could not hold on, after bringing in two more runs in the sixth and seventh inning, as they were shut down by Reedley in seven, with a final score of 14-3.

Game 2 is now underway at Reedley College as the Giants look to redeem themselves after a devastating loss in Game 1.

A single by Donte Valdez and a double by Flavio Perez Jr got the top of the first running after taking a 3-0 lead after one.

A quick 1-2-3 inning for Sequoia pitcher Tyler Ochs brings up the top of the second where the Giants look to continue hitting.

An RBI single by Payton Allen scored the only run in the inning, with COS extending their lead 4-0 heading to the third.

Reedley brought out their bats in the bottom of the third as they added three runs on two singles and a flyout that brought the score within one run.

Adding on a run in the top of the fifth inning, the Giants are now up 5-3 heading into the seventh inning.

The seventh inning was a long one, as baseballs kept moving with the wind. A double by Donte Valdez got the inning going as Payton Allen scored a run. With singles by Elijah Cortez, Payton Allen, Andrew Valdez, and a flyout by Davis Beavers, the Giants added seven more runs to the inning. The score was now 12-2 Giants heading to the bottom of the eighth.

Reedley bats started to light up as COS defense gave up a solo home run and a couple of base hits that added five more runs in the bottom half of the eight.

COS comes up in the top of the ninth and adds one more run with an Andrew Valdez RBI single, and the scoring is now complete.

The Giants split the double-header 1-1, winning Game 2 with a final score of 13-8.

Sequoia baseball is playing a mini-two game home/away series against Merced College this Tuesday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m., where the bats look to stay hot and swinging.
