After coming back from a 21 point deficit against the Yuba 49ers, the Giants are set to take on the Santiago Canyon Hawks. The Hawks are currently seeded the number one seed in the CCCAA’s Men’s Basketball Playoffs with a 26-2 record.
The Hawks statistically speaking are better than the Giants in every major category. They average 93.9 points per game, shoot 49.3 percent from the field, 40.5 from the 3 point line and 76.7 from the free throw line. While COS averages 83.4 points per game, shoots 45.5 percent from the field, 35 percent from the 3 point line, and 64.3 percent from the free throw line.
However, COS has a significant advantage on the boards, not only in numbers but in height too. COS averages 49.4 rebounds per game while the Hawks only average 35.3 rebounds per game. Also when it comes to height the Hawks tallest is 6’9” while COS doesn’t have a player quite that tall. They have 9 players 6’4” above and 4 players 6’7” and above while the Hawks only have 4 such players.
While it’s not a huge advantage the Giants do average 22 assists per game to the Hawks 20.9 assists per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants have a slight advantage in steals 8.9 per game to the Hawks 8.6. They also allow about 2 less points per game allowing 69.1 points per game to the Hawks 71.8 points per game. However the Giants do have a significant advantage when it comes to blocks per game. The Giants average 5.9 BPG to the Hawks 1.9.
The keys to the Giants winning and continuing their playoff success will be 2 things: limiting their turnovers and stopping 25 point per game scorer Antonio Jenkins which they could give him some issues because of not only their length inside but on the perimeter.
Jenkins is only 5’11 and 150 pounds so if you put bigger and longer athletes at him his body will wear down.
Unfortunately the game is only being live streaming due to coronavirus issues only necessary staff and players for both teams are allowed to attend. The game will be streamed on www.cccaasports.org and www.socalcollegesports.com at 5:00 P.T.
