The men’s baseball team, 8-1, battles Fresno City College twice this week for the top spot in the Central Valley Conference (CVC).

At the conference season mid-point, the rivals are tied at 8-1. COS travels to Euless park today at 3 p.m. and Fresno returns the trip Friday, for a 2 p.m. game.

“Morale is good, it’s not a secret, winning helps morale,” said Coach Jody Allen. “It keeps people excited about coming to practice because winning has that effect.”

Chris Gonzalez leads the Giants on offense,  batting .372 with 20 rbi’s and five stolen bases. Andrew Valdez has four homeruns, 25 rbi’s and hit at a .368 clip. Jordan Rojas has added 20 rbi’s and Ryan Tucker has chipped in 16 runs scored and a .411 batting average.

On the mound, Jacob Hernandez sports a stellar 3-0 record and a 1.38 earned run average. Cade Sakamoto has added four wins. Hard-throwing relievers, Izaiah Davis with five saves and Zach McCorvey’s miniscule 0.53 ERA lead the bullpen.

“Last week, we scored a lot of runs,” Allen said, and got a lot of guys into the games, it’s always nice to not only play the starters but also get the other guys, who work hard during practice, get in and play.”
